Announcing the 2021-2022 Creative Residents

We started the Creative Residency, six years ago, to offer creative professionals starting their career access to the best tools and resources along with guidance from advisors and a compensation package. In return, Residents proactively pursue their own personal projects while sharing their process, insights, and inspirations with the community along the way. Since the program launched in 2015, it has evolved from two Residents in the first year to, in 2020, supporting over 500 creators from across the globe, in tandem with our monthly Community Fund.

It is my pleasure to announce our two new annual Residents for 2021-2022: Digital Storyteller and Video Producer Hallease Narvaez and Multimedia Artist and Mixed Reality (XR) Engineer Tanya Gupta. In addition, I am thrilled to welcome two additional Residents who will be spending 3 months with us: YouTuber and Content Creator Shirin Nahvi and Experience Designer Shea Rhim.

I got to meet with these residents, and learned about their passion for creativity and about how each of them will be using their Residency:

Narvaez’s Residency year will be focused on shifting her YouTube channel to a narrative storytelling channel through a comedy web series which she will produce, co-write, and star in, bringing people along for the ride behind the scenes. In conjunction, Narvaez is also launching ‘Tryna Be Somebody,’ a video podcast that interviews different BIPOC artists on their creative careers to offer encouragement and advice to others.
Gupta will spend her Residency year pursuing a series of augmented reality projects that aim to empower people to use their entire left-brain and right-brain skillset to create and consume art.
Nahvi is a videographer focusing on transparency in the beauty industry. She will take a global audience behind the scenes of creating content for beauty brands and include interviews to give further insight into each brand’s creative process.
Rhim is a multi-disciplinary designer specializing in UX/UI and Web Design. His work aims to combine his roots in studio art with technology and user-centered design thinking. During his Residency, Rhim will be exploring the future of mobility, documenting the process on his YouTube channel.
