How To Build Planet Earth With After Effects?

Have you seen Stanley Kubrick’s 2001 A Space Odyssey? At that time the images of space were not as easy to create as now with the program After Effects. Do you dare to try?

If you are thinking that you are going to have to design and that it is going to take you a lot of time to do this 30-second sequence, you are wrong. It is true that as far as the construction of the Earth is concerned, you can do it in the following way:

You will need a 2D image of the earth showing the continents and oceans. You can get it on Google simply by searching for Earth map.

Now you just need to import it into After Effects and drag it onto the timeline.

Building the Earth with After Effects

The next step is to apply one of the effects that come by default in the program: CC Sphere. And now you have your planet Earth!

Rotation. In the modifications of this effect you will be able to rotate the image and vary the view perspective. For that rotation effect you will only have to go to the beginning of the composition, press the “rotation Y” clock to create a keyframe and then at the end of the composition and set the rotation Y to 180 degrees. In this way the Earth will rotate slowly. Remember not to give it much more because it would speed up the rotation and lose realism.

Clouds. Find a picture of clouds. Apply the spheron effect, increase it a little in size until it is a little bigger than the Earth. Place the layer on top of the Earth. Lower the opacity to 50%. Go to the beginning of the timeline, open the rotation tab and in the “rotation Y” press the clock, go to the end of the composition and in the Y rotation add 180 degrees, while in the Z rotation put the value of – Four. Five.

How to build Planet Earth in After Effects

Background with stars. It only remains to place the Planet Earth in the Galaxy. To do this create a new white solid. Place it behind New White Solid. CC Star Burst in this way the stars will appear. But so that it is not so ornate, it will be necessary to remove some stars. To do this we will increase the scatter by about 300 or 400. Raise the speed to 4 and finally we will reduce the size of the stars in the Size parameter. In this way, the Earth will become the protagonist of our composition.

What did you think of this tutorial? Did you know these two After Effects effects?
